This Can Happen
I was invited to This can Happens workplace retreat to provide poetic entertainment during the evening dinner. In this piece, the protagonist suffers from a negative reflection of self, and this transpires into how he sees the world around him. He has an incredibly harsh internal voice, which makes him question his ability to succeed. The ongoing voice builds up an emotional wave, but he can’t express his monologue as his “tears never surface” When he faces the working world around him, instead of addressing his internal conflict he picks himself up and ignores “the ongoing war in my head”. Like many people, addressing mental health is a frightening experience. But, how can we be the best version of ourselves in the workplace - when we hold onto our trauma. How can we make decisions- when our brains are cluttered with noise. Mental health isn’t left to the compounds of your apartment it follows you everywhere and without addressing it, your life much like this character suffers.
